In mid October, the weather can be quiet chill and wet in Japan. When the rain starts to fall the temperature can drops significantly. Therefore even if it's just a drizzle, it is enough to make my body shiver.
Dewing the smooth road of Omotesando, I could not wait for the rain to stop. Omotesando is the less busy version of Ginza, an upper scale shopping district in Tokyo. Everything sold here is undoubtedly beautiful, elegant, yet seriously expensive.
Finally, I saw her walking towards me with her two years old daughter sitting comfortably in her pram. It's been 10 years since I last saw her. Though she looked way slimmer than I first saw her, her friendly and warm nature is trully the reminiscent of those younger days.
Reunion always cues a giddiness to me. Together with my husband and her little one, we went to have lunch at a venue she recommended. The place's name is Hachibei, a small, but super cosy sushi joint.
Hachibei specializes at Sushi dish but they do offer other dishes that don't involve raw meats. My husband was intrigued to try out their burger steak. I was more conservative, so I sticked to sushi.
Both dishes taste so delicious. The sushi was gloriously fresh and served in a range of combos. I like their tuna and prawn miso soup the most!
The burger was succulently juicy and had delicious sauce blanketing the meat. The portion was sufficient for one person. By this I mean not too big nor too small. Just fulfilling.
We had a lot of catching-up sessions during the lunch. M is married to an investment banker who apparently travels a lot. Too bad he could not join us at the time we met. She lives in the subburbs of Tokyo.
One thing that surprises me is that even after her hard-earned master degree in the UK, she does not mind to be a full-time mommy. I know this is a not-so easy call to make. But, she does it anyway and she seemed to enjoy it to the fullest. So happy for her.
At the time we met she was expecting a second child. She shared with us the ups and downs of having the role as a mum. And boy, guess what? It is tough as hell! You need to be ready for anything in 24 hour. Well, having heard and converse on this topic, I can only hope that I will be able to give the best when my time comes. Finger crossed!
We could not stay long at the restaurant cause her daughter needed her daily nap. After lunch, we parted and said goodbye. But, this is surely not a farewell. I hope to meet her again sometime in the future. Meanwhile, we'll keep the communication online. Haha.
I and my husband continued our journey by strolling around the area glazing through the cute little japanese boutiques.
